Tuesday, June 27, 2006, Mr. Louis and Djembes

This morning we heard chapter 2 of DSA and Wiglaf. How do you think Wiglaf will get seven pennies?? We'll have to read some more...
Now, we have all heard of circle time and literature circles but have you ever heard about a drum circle? Well that's what we did today, Music teacher Mr. Louis Gravel came to visit us with Djembes (African drums) and other African percussion instruments. We had a blast! We played and sang two songs but we won't tell you what. You'll find out at a later date. The older children went first and after recess the younger children had their turn. Then the last hour we all jammed together! It was so much fun!
We also started writing medieval theme words and the writing workshop was quite interesting.
Tomorrow: Art with Miss Jennifer - I wonder what medieval craft she has planned for us??????
Our first day!!

First day!! What a wonderful morning! We held the workshop outdoors today! The weather was on our side.
Our Read-Aloud book is DRAGON SLAYERS' ACADEMY #1 The New kid at School by Kate McMullan; illustrated by Bill Basso. There are nine chapters in the book and we'll read a chapter a day!
Our first writing activity was writing about ourselves to plan out our heraldry.
We had recess and after recess we had D.E.A.R.(Drop Everything And Read) outside under the trees and at the picnic tables.
We were given out our folders; the older children got red ones and the younger ones got yellow. On our folders we drew our heraldry. (Later on we'll make big shields).
The morning flew by very quickly.! See you soon!
